Picking A Destination

Wedding planning versus honeymoon planning?  Let’s go with honeymoon planning please!  Even before getting engaged, we talked about the best honeymoon for us.  It originally was going to be to Italy.  Charlotte is Italian and Eric just wanted to get over to Europe.  Once looking into it deeper, we knew we couldn’t go for Italy.  Being the travelers we are, we would want to stay longer.  Sure, 10-14 days traveling around Italy seems like enough time, but it definitely is not.  If you knew us, you knew we probably wouldn’t come back.  Our motto, “Once we get to Europe, explore all we can.  We are saving this trip for when we can spend a month or two over seas.  For now, we had to figure out a new destination.

How About Alaska?

Charlotte being from Florida has always said how she is over it being hot, flat, and too tropical for her.  She wanted a severe change in scenery with cooler temperatures.  Eric, being the cruise addict he is, always wanted to take an Alaskan cruise.  After thinking about it and more research, we were sold.  The outstanding reviews from people we know mixed with reviews and videos online made it easy to choose.

The Itinerary

Eric was non-stop on numerous sites trying to research our honeymoon.  Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Princess became the norm on our computer.  After finally finding a great deal on Vacations-To-Go, we booked the cruise.  Now we needed airfare, both to Vancouver and home from Anchorage.  That was a struggle to find good times with a good price.  After a month of waiting, we finally pulled the trigger.  We booked airfare through American Airlines and United Airlines.  An epic 16 day journey visiting some mountainous, snow covered destinations that Canada and Alaska had to offer was on the horizon.

A quick summary of our adventure:

  • 2 days in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
  • 7 day Northbound Inside Passage and Hubbard Glacier cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas
  • 7 days with a rental car in mainland Alaska visiting Seward, Anchorage, Talkeetna, and Denali National Park
